Cherokee High Adventure Programs

have just what you are looking for! Cherokee Scout Reservation would like to
invite YOU to participate in a stupendous new High Adventure program
called the Cherokee Mountain Adventure

This intense, week-long high adventure program will take place in the mountains of North Carolina near Boone. Each day will present a unique opportunity to develop a young man’s self confidence through participation in various high adventure activities. Please A-24 for an application.
Day 1: fly fishing instruction and fly fishing on a mountain stream
Day 2: Whitewater rafting
Day 3: Cave Exploration
Day 4: Backpacking at Grandfather Mountain
Day 5: Gem Mining followed by lunch at Shatley Springs.
This program will begin at 10:00 AM Sunday morning and will end on Friday evening at Camp Cherokee. There will be a parent supplied covered dish meal along with a program and slide show. The program will have a limit of 12 Scouts each week and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Participants must be at least 14 years old by the departure date, passed a swimmers test and have approval from their Scoutmaster.
This program is not a regular camp program, and has a total fee of $375.00. A $100.00 deposit is required at the time you sign up.
This trip is for individual scouts, and therefore you do not have to sign-up as a unit!

Below is a list of required gear. We will be camping at a campground near Boone and will leave from that base camp for all of our activities. Please keep in mind that we will be spending the week in the mountains of North Carolina, which means we can see temperatures in the 40’s at night.

In 2008, Cherokee Scout Reservation will be the base camp for the Whitewater Canoe Adventure Program that in previous years has been operated from Charles T. Hagan, Jr. Sea Scout Base.
Whitewater Canoe Adventure
During the week, participants will stay in a mountain cabin, complete with electricity, bunk beds, bathrooms with hot showers and cable TV. This is a very relaxing trip and you will have plenty of time to play cards, volleyball or just rest. You will eat great on this trip as well, by having a kitchen in the cabin along with refrigeration, our options for meals is greatly expanded.
Program Facts
· You can participate in this program with or without other members of your Troop or Crew with Scoutmaster or Advisor approval
· You can participate in this program with or without adult leaders from your Troop or Crew *(see below)
· Limited to 10 participants
· Be at least 14 years old by June 1, 2008
· Be a registered Boy Scout or Venturer
· Must have completed a Class 3 Medical Form within the past 12 months
· Must have successfully completed the Swimmers Test within the past 12 months
· Boy Scouts must have previously earned canoeing merit badge; Venturers must be able to demonstrate basic canoe handling skills
· $350 per person
· Fees include cost of staffing / instruction, transportation, food and equipment, weeklong stay in a mountain cabin
