Cherokee Scout Reservation

Located southwest of Yanceyville, in Caswell County. Turn off US-158 on to Boy Scout Camp Road.

Facilities

Camp Cherokee offers an exciting long-term camping experience. At Camp Cherokee, units stay in individual camp sites under their own leadership. Each camp site has access to running water and latrines. Meals are served in the centrally located dining hall and hot showers are available in several recently constructed shower houses. Laundry facilities are also available. Boys enjoy Camp Cherokee's fun and challenging programs, including a C.O.P.E. course, swimming, boating, riflery, archery, pioneering, scoutcraft, conservation, nature studies and many other activities.

This exciting variety of activities gives boys the perfect opportunity to earn merit badges and explore new challenges including the First Year Camper Program. Camp Cherokee is also available for weekend camping year round.

Woodfield Scout Preservation

Located near Asheboro, in Randolph County. Take US-220 South to US-64 West. Turn left on Tabernacle School Road. Go about 1 mile and entrance is on the left.

Woodfield is divided into an East and West side. Both sections offer short term, weekend camping, year round. The East side of Woodfield has a Cub World containing ten camp sites with access to running water, male and female flush toilets and program areas. Some of these sites provide permanent wall tents year round. Cubs have access to three program areas that include: an Indian Village, stockade, and pirates' ship.

Facilities

A trading post, amphitheater, chapel, BB and archery ranges are also located within Cub World. For Boy Scouts, there is boating offered on the upper lake and two sections of East Woodfield are reserved for Boy Scout Camping. One section has been set aside for low impact camping and the other section has access to running water and fire rings for weekend camping. The West side of Woodfield offers By Scouts weekend camping on eight established camp sites with fire rings. These sites also provide access to latrines, showers and a program shelter. Low impact camping is also available on Mary's Mountain, however fires are prohibited in this area

Clay Hemric Scout Reservation

Take I-85 to Burlington, then follow NC-49 north to Virginia. Turn right onto Highway 58 east and follow to Highway 15 south for about 4 miles to Longwood Boat Ramp on the right. Put in boat and travel back under the Highway 15 bridge. Travel about 1 mile in the main channel. The boat dock will be a small cove to the right.

Facilities

The camp provides docks, latrines, running water, a dining hall and lodge building. There is a $6.00 fee for use of the gas.

Charles T. Hagan Scout Sea Base

Take I-85 south to Lexington and get off at Exit 91 onto Highway 8 South. As you enter Southmont, turn right on the 2nd road past the Post Office. Cross the railroad tracks and turn right on Scout Road. Go about 6/10 of a mile to the White wooden gate on the left to enter this property.

Guilford Courthouse Historic Trail

Facilities

The trail begins at the Lake Brandt marina, and follows an old rail road bed for about 2 miles before leading to the military park visitors center where a short film is shown. the trail then follows about a 4.5 mile loop before ending back at the visitors center. Cub packs, or units that wish to hike a shorter distance may begin the trail at the visitors center.

Location

To get to the Visitor Center take U.S. 220 North (also know as Old Battleground Rd.) from the center of Greensboro. The Visitor Center is off New Garden Rd., just east of the Old Battleground Rd. - New Garden Rd. intersection. To get to the Lake Brandt Marina, take Old Battleground Rd. north to Lake Brandt Rd. and make a right onto Lake Brandt Rd. The Lake Brandt Marina is located one mile north of the Lake Brandt Rd. - Lawndale Dr. fork.

Awards

There is a Guilford Courthouse historic trail award offered by Tsoiotsi Tsogalii Lodge and the Old North State Council to scouts who complete one of the enclosed questionnaires and have it signed by a park ranger, after viewing the short orientation film at the visitors' center and hiking the trail. The historic trail award patches and medallions are available at the council service center.

Questionnaires

There are three separate questionnaires to choose from to qualify for the historic trail patch. There are two questionnaires that are geared for Boy Scouts and one that is geared towards Cub Scouts. Boy Scouts may choose either one of the questionnaires.
