Ordeal Fact Sheet

You have been selected to become a member of Scouting’s National Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow, also known as the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service. To fulfill your election into this Society, you will have to complete an Ordeal Weekend. Listed below are the dates for the two Ordeal Weekends that will be held for this year. Cost for either weekend is $35.00 which includes the following: All meals, Ordeal Sash, Order of the Arrow Handbook, Lodge Flap, Membership Card, Dues for the rest of this year (Note: At the end of the year (October 1st), you will have to pay your Lodge Dues of $10.00 to continue active membership in the Order of the Arrow), an issue of our award-winning Newsletter, and a New Member Orientation Guide!

Here are when the Ordeal Weekends are to be offered:

September 8 - 10, 2006 --- Limited to 1st 150 Ordeal Candidates!

October 6-8, 2006 --- Limited to 1st 150 Ordeal Candidates!
Cherokee Scout Reservation

When to check-in:
Friday afternoon between 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Supper will be served from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.

Refund Policy: Refunds will only be made if an Adult calls five (5) days prior to the event to the Council Office (336-378-9166) to cancel the registration. The only exception to the policy will be in case of an illness or a death in the family and that cancellation must be made at least by the day of the event.

Listed below are what the Ordeal Candidates need to bring, when they need to check-in and when they can check-out, directions to the camps, and a Registration Form. Please make all checks payable to: Old North State Council and mail to PO Box 29046, Greensboro NC 27429-9046. It is imperative that you check in NO LATER than 7:30pm on Friday evening! Supper will be served (Between 6:00 to 7:00pm). Be sure to bring your Class A Uniform!


Ordeal Weekend Information

What to bring:
Sleeping Bag with Ground Cloth
Personal tent
Class A Uniform
Normal Camping Gear
Personal Hygiene Kit
Towel & Washcloth
Work Clothes & Gloves Spending Money for the Trading Post (T-Shirts, Hats, Lodge Flaps, Cokes, Candy, etc)

Items Needed Friday Night:
Sleeping Bag with Ground Cloth, Wear Work Clothes, Baseball Hat and bring Gloves

Items Not Needed Friday Night:
Flashlights, Knives, Water Bottles, Food

When to check-in:
Friday afternoon between 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Supper will be served from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.

When to check out:
Sunday morning between 9:30am and 10:00am.


Directions to the Camps

Woodfield Scout Preservation
From Greensboro, Take US-220 South to Asheboro
Turn right on US-64 West (About 23 miles)
Go about 8.5 miles west on US-64
Turn left on Tabernacle School Road
Turn left into the camp
At the first road to your right, turn and go up to the gravel parking lot
Check-in will be there

Cherokee Scout Reservation
From Greensboro, take US-29 North toward Reidsville
Turn right on US-158 East toward Yanceyville
Go about 17 miles and turn right on Boy Scout Camp Road
Go several miles and turn right into camp
Park in the gravel parking lot. Check-in at the Dining Hall Shelter
